Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro presents Boulevard de Portas Abertas with the UFRJ Children’s Choir

Tomorrow, Wednesday 22 June, the Open Doors Boulevard will bring the Children’s Choir of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro to the City Theater of Rio de Janeiro.

Founded in 1989 by the conductor Maria José Chevitarese, it is now a consolidated group that has already performed with the most important Brazilian orchestras.

With more than 500 performances under its belt, the group has participated in the production of Tourandot, La Bohème and Tosca by Puccini, Carmem by Bizet, Hansel und Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck, Mefistofoles by Arrigo Boito, the Magic Flute by Mozart, Macbeth by Verdi, Billy Budd and War Requiem by Benjamin Britten, Mandu Çarará, Magdalena and Magnificat Alleluia by Villa-Lobos, cantata O Menino Maluquinho by Ernani Aguiar, Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, 3rd Symphony by Mahler, Te Deum by Berlioz and On the Transfigurations of Souls by John Adams at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro.

He performed with the UFRJ Symphony Orchestra and performed the works Coração Concreto by Ronaldo Miranda and Il est né le divin Enfant by Gabriel Faure and Cloches by Noel by Alberto Nepomuceno, in Sala Cecília Meireles. He gave two concerts during the celebration of the Bicentennial of Argentina’s Independence, in Buenos Aires.

In 2019, he took part in the premiere program of the new season of Blim, Blem, Blom on Rádio MEC, with the anchor Tim Rescala and in a program commemorating the 30th anniversary of the group’s founding.

In the same year, he performed at the world premiere of the opera A nova Roupa do Imperador, composed by the Swede Sven Kristersson, based on Andersen’s stories and at the Gala Solidária, at the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro.

In 2021 he performed at the world premiere of the operatic installation “BEM no meio”, with libretto and direction by Karen Acioly and music by French composer Camille Rocaileux, available via the links below:
