“Inseparables” is the winning feature film at the 32nd Cine Ceará

“Big Bang” was voted Best Short Film by the official jury of the Brazilian Competitive Show. At the Mostra Olhar do Ceará, the winners were the feature film “Darkness in the Land of Light” and the short film “Opera without Ticket”.

After seven days of programming, the 32nd Cine Ceará – Ibero-American Film Festival ended on the night of Thursday 13 October with a closing ceremony at Cineteatro São Luiz. Before the announcement and presentation of the prizes to the winners, singer-songwriter Ednardo was honored by the festival and received the Eusélio Oliveira trophy, in recognition of his valuable work, especially as he has also marked his career in the audiovisual sector, as author of several film and television soundtracks. Following the award ceremony, there was a special screening of “Saravá, meu avô”, a feature film marking Gabriela Oliveira’s debut as a director, co-directed by her father, Eusélio G. Oliveira (Xuxu). Together they review the biography of one of the most important names in the history of Ceará’s culture, Eusélio Oliveira.

THE WINNING MOVIES OF THE 32nd CINE CEARÁ

COMPETITIVE IBERO-AMERICAN FEATURE MOVIE SHOW

“Inseparables” (Las Cercanas), by María Álvarez, was the big winner, receiving the Mucuripe Trophy in the Best Feature Film category and an award of R$20,000 for the film’s distribution in Brazil, according to the festival’s rules. The film was also a winner in the Best Editing category, in addition to receiving the Critics’ Award for Best Feature Film, awarded by the Abraccine Jury – Brazilian Association of Film Critics.

The Best Director award went to Carlos Lechuga for “Vicenta B”, which also won Linnett Hernández Valdés in the Best Female Performance category. Démick Lopes received the award for Best Male Performance in “The Clown’s Daughter”. The Best Photography went to Victor Silva, for “Green Grass”. “A piedade” (La piedad) won in the categories Best Screenplay (Eduardo Casanova), Best Original Soundtrack (Pedro Onetto), Best Sound (Mar González, Mercedes Tennina and Sebastián Gonzáles) and Best Art Direction (Melanie Antón).

BRAZILIAN SHORT FILM COMPETITIVE SHOW
At the Brazilian Competitive Short Film Show, Carlos Segundo’s film “Big Bang” was awarded the Mucuripe Trophy for Best Short Film, chosen by the show’s official jury. The film was also the winner of the Canal Brasil Short Film Award, chosen by a jury at the invitation of Canal Brasil. This award aims to stimulate the new generation of filmmakers and considers the winners in the short film category of the most representative film festivals in the country. The winner received the Canal Brasil Trophy and a prize of R$15,000.

The official jury awarded the Mucuripe Trophy for Best Director to Laís Santos Araújo for the short “Infantaria”, which also won the Critics Award for Best Short Film, awarded by the Abraccine Jury – Brazilian Association of Film Critics, and the Samburá Trophy for Best Short film by Vida & Arte, by the newspaper O Povo. The Mucuripe Trophy for Best Screenplay, chosen by the official jury, went to Renan Barbosa Brandão for “Último Domingo”. The Samburá Trophy for Best Director went to Breno Alvarenga, for “Camaco”.

SHOW OLHAR DO CEARÁ

“Darkness in the Land of Light”, by Popy Ribeiro, was the winner of the Mucuripe Trophy for best feature film at the Mostra Olhar do Ceará, chosen by the official jury. The winner also received the Hotel Sonata de Iracema Award, for two nights in the official hotel of the 32nd Cine Ceará.

“Opera sem Ingresso”, by Andreia Pires, was voted Best Short Film by the show’s official jury and, in addition to the Mucuripe Trophy, won the Unifor Cinema Award worth R$5,000.

FOLLOWING EXHIBITIONS ON ITAÚ CULTURAL PLAY – On the streaming platform Itaú Cultural Play, the exhibition of eight of the ten short films of the Mostra Olhar do Ceará will run until the 20th: “The bank of a river that my ancestors run” (Iago Barreto Soares), “Aluá” (Felipe Camilo), “The one who came from the west” (Weshley Maria), “Rosa Negra” (Sabina Colares and Marieta Rios), “Mulheres Árvore” (Wara), “Fio de Ariadne” (Mozart Freire and Ton Martins) ), “On the Endless Road There Are Flashes of Splendor” (Liv Costa and Sunny Maia) and “Pedro” (Leo Silva).

MASTER CLASSES IN MIS – On the 20th, 21st and 22nd of this month, Cine Ceará, on Praça do MIS, always at 5.30 pm, will hold three master classes with activities related to film and audiovisual. On the 20th it’s Director of Photography at Joe Pimentel. On the 21st, Érico Paiva (Sapão) will give the Sound and Mixing Masterclass. On the 22nd, Íris Sodré, director of Gavulino Filmes, talks about Executive Production. For the masterclasses, which are free, there is a registration form on the Cine Ceará website.
