My doors from helicopter adventure with Helicopters Magnum is one of the highlights of my trip to Hawaii! Let me share this with you!
In Hawaii, people usually think of cruising, snorkeling, diving, and other island sports. However, some tourists are not familiar with helicopter flights overlooking the stunning islands of Hawaii!
The thought of flying in a helicopter can be overwhelming – “Sounds expensive and luxurious!”, well, we won’t deny that a helicopter ride can be expensive, but we all know it’s worth it! Especially if you’re going to do it in Hawaii! Ah, the view!
In this article, I want to share with you one of my most memorable and exciting trips to Hawaii. I got to fly a helicopter with the door open for 50 minutes to tour Oahu, Hawaii!
Places to see above the sky by helicopter
You can choose from 3 Magnum Helicopter flight options. As I mentioned above, I was on the Doors Off Helicopter adventure, so I’ll summarize the highlights of my tour so you get an idea of what you’re about to experience!
Helicopter Adventure Doors Off at Magnum Helicopters
This was my tour! The experience is completely different from all the previous helicopter flights I have taken as this one is more exciting without doors! This 50-minute drive will allow you to see the natural beauty of Oahu. Above you will see the popular attractions of the island. Here are the highlights of what you will see:
Keehi Lagoon, Magic Island and Waikiki Beach
To start the tour, I got an amazing view of Kihi Lagoon which is a popular spot for canoeing and boating. The ride continues over the historic Honolulu Harbor, Aloha Tower, and Natural Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. As you fly, you will have the opportunity to take in magnificent views of the Kulau Mountains, Ala Moana Beach Park, Magic Island, and Waikiki Beach. The main highlight of this part of the tour is that you can also see surfers off Waikiki and if you are lucky, you can see marine animals like dolphins and turtles.
Diamond Head, Kahala and Hanauma Bay
The next view you will see is Diamond Head, Kahala and Hanauma Bay. This aerial tour will continue to amaze you with stunning views of Diamond Head, Kahala and Hanauma Bay. Enjoy the tour as you continue to marvel at the beauty of Mount Olomana, Kailua, Kaneohe and the magnificent coral formations of Kaneohe Bay.
Uncle Valley, Sacred Falls, North Shore and Pearl Harbor
Finally, as the tour comes to an end, it ends with stunning views of the island’s most popular historical attractions such as Pearl Harbor, the Missouri battleship, Sacred Falls, and the Arizona Memorial.
Things to remember before and during a helicopter flight
According to Magnum Helicopter policy, here are the most important rules you need to know before taking off:
- Only one camera or phone per person on the tour and must have a secure strap. Belts are available for purchase.
- Hats are not allowed.
- Bags and handbags are not allowed.
- No loose items in pockets.
- The minimum age for passengers seated at an open door is 12 years old.
- Children between the ages of 3 and 11 must sit in the middle front seat between the pilot and the responsible adult.
- Passengers weighing over 250 pounds may be subject to a capacity charge.
- Passengers weighing over 300 pounds may need to purchase a comfortable seat.
Also, don’t forget to wear sunglasses as it is very windy and sunglasses will protect your eyes from the wind. Do not wear loose sandals or slippers as you will have to remove them before flying, for safety reasons it is better to wear closed-toed shoes. It can also get chilly in flight, so I also recommend wearing a jacket.

Absolutely yes! While not highly recommended for the faint of heart, this activity is perfect for thrillers and adventurers like me! Imagine you can see the beauty of Oahu from above. In addition, Magnum Helicopters ensures the safety of its guests, so you don’t have to worry about anything.
If you are planning to visit Hawaii, I strongly recommend that you do so!
