I listened with interest to the last public report of the Minister of School Music, Bianchi, in which he proposed on the same day and at the same time that all classes of all Italian schools should sing in chorus. anthem mameli: what a beautiful initiative, I thought, but the essence? For some time in the Italian public school the content was different. latita: starting with the questions of the competition for teaching music in the lower grades of a comprehensive school. Quoted verbatim: “Design a didactic formative unit that will cause the students in the class to first attempt to read in septiclavio according to the ancient adiastematic notation.”
At first, thinking that this was a joke, a kind of fake, I thought that the gloss of “How was Antani” was missing: impossible, I thought, like any other insider, such a supercazzola in the competition. However, to my bewilderment and deep regret, after a little research, I found that this pure reality. Apart from the obvious disproportion between the context of the pre-junior high school class and the study of the septic key (including, in addition to the volitional and bass clef, also soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, tenor and baritone), separately therefore nonsense from such a formative sentence in the context of high school, the species does what follows shortly after the adoption of the form of words “according to the ancient adiastematic notation”.
Does the Ministry of Education know that adiastematic notation is the previous, and not least, use of the stave? Therefore, he knows that this type of designation it has nothing to do with any key, and least of all with all the seven keys included in the so-called septoclavio? So what do we want to do? There would be no case that someone from the Ministry of Education, showing a minimum of respect for future teachers, for our graduates, for candidates for a professorship, tried on behalf of the whole apology for such blunders?
In fact, it is not as if this alone is not enough, the only question without any historical and scientific basis: in recent months, many reports have been received from candidates of various competitive classes how many blunders among the questions about, mutatis mutandisinaccurate correspondence between the questions posed and the relative answers indicated as correct by the ministry itself.
But let’s go further: Minister Bianchi knows that Italy is a country where music does not create culture, where musical culture is at the school level does not exist? There is visual, literary art, certainly not musical, which, as a rule, does not go through the intonation of the Mameli anthem, but the study of its history, its forms, its styles in the country, ours, which played a fundamental role in shaping the musical language used today in all corners of the globe. We have said, written, repeated this dozens and dozens of times, never once taking into account the slightest consideration: that is why proposals that could be good, they are not at all if even today no hypothesis is put forward even remotely about the action of a real school musical culture.
In the country of the Opera, the boys they have no idea they are Giuseppe Verdi, Gioacchino Rossini, Giacomo Puccini, and, apart from opera, it is inconceivable that the entire European population should not have the slightest idea of the priceless Western musical repertoire, its glorious past and its new languages. We want to understand once and for all that without musical culture, the entire theater circuit will still suffer. huge budget deficit as already established by decades of practice? Why should young people, the most dynamic group in any society, go to a concert in any theater or auditorium if they are ever adequately attuned to consciously listening to music?
The study of art history is carried out in its reference sector: it is this function at the level of use and attendance of spaces used for the dissemination of visual arts: why not start applying the same economic-cultural model for music? This is done in Germany and in all developed countries, why not start doing it in Italy? In addition to the petition launched by a group of Italian musicologists, there is a bill already submitted to parliament from January 2019 to 1553, for incorporating the history of music into our high school institutes: she is just waiting to be resurrected and continued in the parliamentary process, what are you waiting for?
Finally: Minister Bianchi knows that even today music historians access to education is difficult their subject in music schools, while they can teach it at the same time in universities? Once again: did you know that the history of art is studied two hours a week in music universities, and the history of music, which is also present in these universities for two hours a week, does not appear in the curricula of art universities? Why this all-Italian discrepancy between the history of fine arts, rightfully ubiquitous in school curricula, and what concerns sound art? Is the Ministry of Education able to give adequate, reasoned and timely answers?
